Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary

Paro, Bhutan

Retreat

Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary sits high in the Neyphu Valley, a 15-minute drive from Paro's international airport, and describes itself as the world's only all-inclusive luxury resort built around gSo-ba Rig-pa, traditional Bhutanese medicine. Every stay begins with a complimentary consultation with one of the property's resident drungtsho — traditional medicine doctors — who ask about diet, fitness routines and pain points, check pulse, examine the tongue, and even ask for a guest's astrological sign, before designing a personalized wellness program meant to balance body, mind and spirit for the duration of the stay and beyond. All treatments across the property are 100% herbal-based, using ingredients that include jars of Bhutanese herbs grown on-site.

Signature treatments reflect this deep grounding in Bhutanese herbal tradition: herbal compression, hot oil compression, moxibustion, herb-infused hot stone baths, herbal jacuzzis, and Ku Nye massage — a full-body, neck, feet and back massage rooted in traditional technique. The wellness facilities include six rustic, naturally designed treatment rooms with ten treatment beds, plus a heated indoor pool surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the mountains and valley. Meditation is treated as a core wellness offering rather than an add-on, reflecting its central place in Bhutanese culture — the wellness team leads sound meditation using singing bowls, along with guided, gratitude and focus meditation, and guests can unwind afterward in a wellness lounge over fresh herbal tea (cell phone use is discouraged in this space to preserve its quiet).

Because the resort is fully wellness-inclusive, at least one traditional treatment per day is built into every guest's stay, alongside free yoga classes, jacuzzis and full use of all wellness facilities. Programming ranges from a classic stay-and-treat format to more structured, multi-day journeys — including a recently launched six-day, five-night "Glimpse of Bhutan" itinerary blending culture, landscape and traditional wellness (with a guided hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery and visits to Punakha and Thimphu), and a seven-day Reset & Detox Package built around a digital detox in nature. The resort also periodically hosts thematic retreats and events in collaboration with visiting yoga teachers, coaches, artists and writers, and dining follows a farm-to-table, seasonal-and-local philosophy across included breakfasts, four-course lunches and six-course dinners.
