Amansara Reopens Following Three-Month Enhancement Programme

Updates include five suites upgraded with private pools, introduction of Junior/Two-Bedroom Pool Suites, new destination Bar, refreshed Dining Room, and new spa hydrotherapy facilities unveiling Nov 15.

Following a carefully considered three-month enhancement programme in collaboration with Kerry Hill Architects, Amansara reopens its doors this week, welcoming guests. Resting just 10 minutes from Cambodia's famed UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor, Amansara occupies the former Villa Princière, a landmark of New Khmer architecture. With this renovation, the resort reveals a refreshed accommodation offering, alongside new wellness and dining experiences, all the while preserving the timeless architecture that has defined Amansara since its inception in 2002.

Accommodation at Amansara

Throughout the renovation, every detail has been guided by a philosophy of thoughtful evolution, enriching the experience while honouring Kerry Hill Architect’s original vision and the property’s remarkable royal past as the former royal guesthouse of His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk. Accommodation was the central focus of the renovation programme, with five additional guest suites upgraded to include private swimming pools, expanding Amansara's coveted collection of Pool Suites and providing more guests with an even greater sense of privacy and tranquillity. The reopening also marks the introduction of two new categories: a Junior Pool Suite and a Two-Bedroom Family Pool Suite. Created in response to increasing demand for family and multi-generational travel trends, the suites offer generous indoor and outdoor living spaces – providing ample room for socialising and time to oneself. Alongside the new additions, all 24 of the resort’s guest suites have received a comprehensive soft refurbishment.

Reimagined dining, wellness, boutique spaces

Several of Amansara's social spaces have also been thoughtfully reimagined, creating new opportunities for gathering while celebrating the history of the former royal residence. One of the most notable additions is a new destination Bar, located within the room that originally served as an intimate dining space for King Sihanouk and the royal family between 1962 and 1965. More than six decades later, the space returns to its original form. A place for convivial gatherings, it offers the ideal backdrop for pre-dinner aperitifs and evening cocktails with a menu inspired by Cambodia's Kingdom of Wonder and the stories of Amansara's remarkable home

The Dining Room has also been refreshed, with works sensitively preserving one of the resort's most significant architectural spaces. Once the principal dining room and private screening room of Villa Princière, the spectacular circular space now features integrated banquette seating that creates a more flexible setting for dining, complemented by the addition of a new wine cellar allowing the resort to further enhance its culinary offering.

Imbued with a sense of spiritual tranquility, the Aman spa, with its four treatment rooms and a dedicated yoga studio, is a welcome retreat where a menu of therapies interweaves Khmer healing traditions with Aman’s own organic blends. As Aman continues to expand and develop its holistic approach to wellness, Amansara's Spa has also been refreshed with dedicated hydrotherapy facilities - featuring hot and cold plunge pools and a sauna –introduced for the first time. This will allow guests to integrate thermal therapy into their wellness rituals before or after treatments, creating a more robust spa experience from start to finish.

Alongside the unveiling of the hydrotherapy facilities on 15 November, Amansara will introduce a new collection of wellness journeys. Centred on contrast therapy, relaxation, circulation and recovery, the experiences combine sauna, hot and cold plunge pools and a bucket shower with curated spa treatments. The programme spans three offerings: the Restoration Journey, which pairs 60 minutes of private hydrotherapy with a choice of spa treatment; the more immersive Revitalise Journey, a half-day experience uniting guided contrast hydrotherapy with a herbal body scrub, deep-tissue massage and purifying facial; and a standalone Private Hydrotherapy Experience for guests wishing to enjoy the facilities independently or alongside another treatment. This new series of experiences complements the resort's enhanced accommodation, dining and wellness spaces, offering guests even more ways to experience Amansara, Siem Reap and the wonders of Cambodia.

The resort’s Boutique space has also been expanded and reconfigured to showcase a broader collection of Cambodian craftsmanship pieces, alongside an enhanced selection of Aman Essentials and exclusive resort items, offering guests a deeper connection to both local artisans and the Aman lifestyle.

Enhanced arrival experience

True to Aman’s ethos of welcoming guests into the comfort of home, the arrival experience has been thoughtfully refined to create an even greater sense of ease from the start of every stay. Replacing the traditional reception counter with individual seating areas, check-in now takes place in a more relaxed, personal setting, encouraging a seamless transition into the serenity of the resort no matter the origin destination.

New ways to experience Amansara

Since its opening in 2002, Amansara has distinguished itself through experiences that connect guests to the cultural, spiritual and natural heritage of Cambodia. Alongside the resort's physical enhancements, Amansara will introduce a collection of new experiences that offer guests deeper ways to connect with both the destination and the resort itself.

Among the most notable additions is the newly upgraded Amanbala lake boats, which will now host private dining experiences on the water for the first time. Accommodating up to four guests, the experience offers an intimate setting surrounded by the tranquillity of the lake, creating a unique opportunity to enjoy Cambodia's natural beauty in complete seclusion. Amansara's additional excursion boats have also been upgraded, ensuring greater comfort and ease for journeys on the water. A visit to the floating village of Chong Kneas offers a fascinating insight into life on Tonlé Sap Lake, where homes, schools, markets and places of worship adapt to the lake's seasonal rhythms. No two visits are ever the same, with villages appearing to drift across vast flooded landscapes during the green season before relocating as the waters recede and the scenery transforms in the drier months.

Reflecting the growing demand for multi-generational travel, Amansara has also introduced a custom-designed four-seater family remork (moped-powered trishaw) which is perfect for families exploring Cambodia’s cultural capital Siem Reap and Angkor – the vast, UNESCO-protected ruins of the once mighty Khmer Empire. Complemented by an expanded programme of family-focused experiences tailored to different age groups, the new offering provides a more engaging and comfortable way for guests of all ages to discover one of the world's most remarkable cultural destinations.

Preserving legacy

With further improvements spanning the retiling of all swimming pools and refurbishment of corridors and pathways, the project carefully balances preservation with evolution, enhancing the guest experience while honouring its rich heritage. Amansara reopened on 15 September 2026, welcoming guests to experience a renewed expression of one of Aman's most storied destinations.
